Picture Perfect: Discovering the Ideal Children's Illustrator for your Storybook Adventure

Updated: May 11

As a children's book author, finding the perfect illustrator to bring your story to life can be a daunting task. But with the right research and a clear vision of what you're looking for, it can also be an exciting journey. When I first started the process, I explored both local and online illustrators, and even searched popular illustrators on Amazon.

Working with a local illustrator has the benefit of face-to-face interaction and more personalised communication. I was able to meet with local illustrators in person, view their portfolios, and discuss ideas for the book. It was also important for me to find an illustrator who shared my vision for the book.

However, finding an illustrator online also has its advantages. It allowed me to expand my search beyond my local area and connect with talented illustrators from around the world. Websites like Upwork and Fivver are great resources for finding illustrators with a range of styles and experience levels.

Another source of inspiration came from researching popular illustrators on Amazon. This helped me identify trending themes, styles and motifs. I was able to explore different genres and artistic styles to compare and contrast what would fit perfectly with my book.

Ultimately, the key to discovering the ideal children's illustrator is doing your research and trusting your gut. Look for an illustrator who aesthetically aligns with your vision and be clear about your expectations. And don't forget to communicate openly throughout the creative process.

It's been an exciting journey for me, and I can't wait to share my children's book with the world with the help of my talented illustrator. Whether you're exploring local talent or online options, the possibilities are endless.
